Naadam Festival is the biggest and most colorful event celebrated nation wide in 11-13 of July of every year. Originated as training for Mongolian cavalry in 13th century Chingis Khaan wanted to be his solders fit and ready for battle at all time. So he summoned everyone to participate for horse racing wrestling and archery. Now these three are the major event of the festival.
Horse race takes place out of town for a straight line racing. There will be 6 different races depending on horse ages. Not only it’s distance (11-32km) but also number horses in one race will make you really impressed. For the state Naadam Festival celebrated in Ulaanbaatar last year had 600- 700 horses in each race. And you can imagine even more number of people and horses not participating actual race, which makes the site more than spectacular.
Wrestling tend to be one of most popular sport in Mongolia. Mongolian national wrestlers are respected and recognized that some of them are sitting in the parliament. Despite of its’ technique and way they wrestled their unique clothing and powerful eagle dances make Mongolian wrestling far more distinguished than any other related sports.
Archery. However Naadam Festival is called The Three Manly Sports among Mongolians there is women participants for archery. Women shoot 40 arrows from the distance of 65m, while men are shooting from distance of 75m with the same amount of arrows.
Erdene Zuu Monastery: founded 1586 by Altai Khaan, Erdene Zuu (Hundred Treasures) was the first Buddhist Monastery in Mongolia. It had between 60 and 100 temples, about 300 gers inseide the walls, at its peak, up to 1000 monks in residence. The monastery was destroyed by Stalinist purges of 1937. All but three of the temples in Erdene Zuu were destroyed and an unknown number of monks were either killer or shipped off to Siberia and never heard from again. However, a surprising number of statues, Tsam masks and Tangkas were saved from the monastery from the time of purges. The items were buried in nearby mountains, or stored in local homes.
Hustai Nuruu National Park: proudly present the Prezewalski horse-TAKHI, the only still living wild ancestor of the domestic horse and other wild life. Our Takhi reintroduction project is continuing with good result and first generation of Takhi born in the wild are reproducing them now. In 2008, there are 20 groups of Prezewalski horses and their total number is reached over 230. The quality of the various ecosystems within the park assures an abundant wildlife. Till now 46 mammals, 217bird, 2 amphibian, 3 reptile,15 fish and over 400 insect species have been recorded. Many of these are mentioned in the Red Data Book as globally threathened with extinction such as the Prezewalski wild horse, the Mongolian gazelle, Red deer, Roe deer, wolf, marmot, Lynx and many more.

Drive to Bayangobi. The area is surrounded by sand dunes, hills covered with rare bushes and a small forest near a river. Together this presents a unique combination of Mongolian mountains, forests and Gobi-type landscape in one location. Camel riding to the dunes. Visit to nomadic family.
