Altai Tavan Bogd National Park: Tavan Bogd (Five Saints) is a soaring cluster of mountains that straddles the border between Mongolia, Russia and China. The highest peak in the range, Khuiten Uul (Cold peak: 4374m), is the tallest mountain in Mongolia and is of interest to professional climbers. Besides Khuiten, the range includes Naran(Sun), Ulgii (land), Burged (Eagle) and Nairamdal (Friendship)uuls. In 2006 the president of Mongolia climbed Khuiten and renamed it IKH MONGOL.
Khar Us Nuur: About 40km to the east of Khovd city is Khar Us Nuur (Dark Water Lake), the second largest fresh water (15.800sq km) lake in Mongolia-but with an average depth of only 4m. Khovd river is flows into this lake, creating a giant marsh delta. The lake is perfect habitat for wild ducks, geese, wood grouse, partridges and seagulls, including rare relict gulls and herring gulls. The best time to see the birdlife is in may and late August.

Drive to Altai Tavan Bogd National Park. This beautiful park stretched south from Tavan Bogd and includes the stunning lakes of Khoton Nuur and Khurgan Nuur. It is a remote area devided from China by a high wall of snowcapped peaks and know to local Kazakhs as the Syrgali region.

We will treck to the Khuiten uul. Even if you are not climber, it is worth trekking up to the base camp, where you can get stunning views of all the peaks as well as the 12km long Potanii glacier , which tumbles out of the range.

Khoton Nuur
Early in the morning we will start driving to Khoton Nuur. The northern tip of the lake is marked by Aral tolgoi, a unique hill surrounded by verdant pastureland and rocky escarpments.

Today we will stop for overnight at Tolbo lake.

Tsenkher cave
Drive to Tsenkheriin agui. The Tsenkheriin agui is located in an attractive setting next to a stream in Mankhan sum. The wall s of caves is strewn with dozens of 15.000 year old paintings.

Drive to Khar us nuur (Dark water lake). Te lake is second fresh water lake in Mongolia.

Ulaanbaatar
Drive to Khovd province. Take flight back to Ulaanbaatar. In the evening enjoy Mongolian traditional folk lore concert. Farewell dinner hosted by our company.
